Dear River Reach Family,
Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
John 4:13-14
Mother’s play a crucial role in God’s economy of the family. God calls mothers to serve and invest themselves in nurturing and discipling their children to follow God (1 Thessalonians 2:7-8). A quick perusal of God’s Word and society reveals a wide variety and impact of mothers. Some mothers are tremendous blessings and spiritual benefits to their children while other mothers tear down their homes with their own hands (Proverbs 14:1). What makes the difference between a great mother and a destructive mother? In John 4, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman who aided the destruction of her home multiple times. We are not told that she had children, but the passage mentions that she had been married five times (John 4:16-18). It is highly likely that at some point along the way she had children and maybe multiple children. The result of her relationship cravings would most likely have produced a difficult home life for her children. Even her best attempts to raise her children would have been overshadowed by the selfish longings of her heart. In her natural state she was doomed to raise children who would also pursue their own passions and cravings to self-destruction. One warm day, Jesus Christ walked into this woman’s life to offer her complete and eternal soul satisfaction (John 4:13-14). When she believed in Jesus that afternoon, she immediately found the true source of soul satisfaction! No longer would her life need to be wasted drinking from mud puddles that could never satisfy (Jeremiah 2:13). She found living water that satisfied her soul and enabled her to lead her family and others to Jesus, the fountain of life! This Mother’s Day let’s find in Jesus Christ personal satisfaction that will provide a firm foundation to bless our families and everyone in our lives.
