Making reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ

The First Missionary Journey 9/20/19

Dear River Reach Family,

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.”

Acts 13:4-5

Our Lord’s last command to us to “make disciples of all the nations” (Matthew 28:19) requires some Holy Spirit called faithful disciples to leave their homes and churches and travel to distant lands with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul, Barnabas, and John Mark were the first Holy Spirit commissioned missions team of the church. What would it be like to be a missionary? Our passage this week launches us off to follow the joys, labors, trials, preaching, and success for the glory of the Lord on this first missions trip. The Holy Spirit records this journey and others to inspire us to trust God to enable us to succeed in taking the Gospel to the furthest part of the world (Acts 1:8)!

Upcoming Sunday Evening Bible Study: The God Who Hears

In about 2 weeks we should finish our study in “The Walk” discipleship series. Thank you to those who gave feedback on our next study last Sunday evening! Our next study will be on prayer as we work through the book The God Who Hears. You may order your own book, or I will also have books available. If you do order I would suggest saving money and buying one of the many used copies available. I’m looking forward to how the Lord will use this study to strengthen our prayer lives.

Praise and Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who helped and prayed for Melodie to be able to get mobile again. Some gave financially, some gave of their time to help Melodie get her driver’s license and vehicle registered again. Thank you for your physical displays of love for these brethren! Please continue to pray that she will be able to find a job quickly.
