Making reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ

River Reach News 6/9

Dear River Reach Family,

When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.” 16 But he hesitated. So the men seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the compassion of the LORD was upon him; and they brought him out, and put him outside the city.” Genesis 19:15-16

In our society today many forces are working to tear down the authority of God’s Law.  Two years ago, a ground swell of rebellion against the Lord reached the highest court in the land and resulted in the legalization of the sin of same sex marriage.  Amazingly many professing Christians are joining the rebellion against God’s Word by approving of and condoning people who give into the lust of same sex attraction.  God’s Word is absolutely clear in revealing God’s hatred for the sin of homosexuality as well as all other sins (Rom. 6:23; 1:24-27).  In our passage for this Sunday, we will see God annihilate the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone from heaven as judgment for their moral depravity (Genesis 19:24-25).  We ought not be shocked when unregenerate people pursue the lusts of their flesh.  God calls us to be salt and light in this dark world by lovingly sharing the Gospel and standing for righteousness.  God can forgive and regenerate any sinner who receives Jesus Christ! (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)  Lot, Abraham’s nephew, is forever associated with Sodom.  His compromise with the world destroyed any influence he might have had to rescue souls from imminent destruction.  On Sunday we will examine the devastating impact of compromise with world in the life of Lot.

Summer Teen Camp: August 7-12

We are excited to have the opportunity to send two young men to summer camp at the Wilds Christian Camp in NC in August 7-12.  This will be a wonderful opportunity for them to hear the Gospel and to see the love of Christ while also having good clean fun!  We are seeking to raise the $700 necessary to make this possible.  If you would like more information please contact me!  If you would like to give, you may do so by designating in the regular offering.

Prayer Requests:

It is absolutely essential that we pray for one another.  While it may not always be visible, many in our church are going through difficult times and need your prayer support.  God is our hope! Let’s find grace at His throne (Hebrews 4:16).
