“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. “He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:38-39
As I read these verses in my personal devotions this week, the Holy Spirit reminded me that those who follow the Lord must be willing to pay a high price – “his cross”. Crosses aren’t easy to carry. They are heavy, and often seem senseless to lug around. Why would we carry a cross? First, our Savior carried a cross and asks us to do the same. Second, carrying a cross is necessary to finding the fulfilled and blessed life that only Christ can give! It seems so backwards that we must lose our life to find it, but that is the case! When we seek to live to please ourself and ignore service to the Lord, we rob ourselves of true blessing. Shoulder your cross and carry it proudly by God’s grace.
