My heart lies to me all the time. It tells me that life is all about ME! It attempts to convince me that my own glory, power, and kingdom is where true joy and happiness are found. Even as a child of God living in the kingdom of God, I may still believe the lie of my heart and pursue my own puny little kingdom.
When everything seems to come crashing down around us we often feel like caving to discouragement and despair. We might ask questions like, “How could God let something like this happen?” or “How can anything good come from this?”
It is natural to assume that the Lord blesses His most godly and faithful servants with visible ministry success and personal comfort. I mean if God is happy with you then life will be pleasant and peaceful! Right?
Most of our worries in life come from the sobering reality that we are limited in every way. What happens if I face an obstacle larger than my strength? Will I have enough to do what God asks of me?
Though we are saints by faith in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:2), we are still sinners. If we fall prey to the temptations of our flesh and Satan, we can contaminate Christ’s church through selfish ambition and impure motives.

Jesus never promised an easy path for those who follow Him (John 15:20). As the new church of Jesus Christ enjoyed the blessings of the Holy Spirit, fellowship with other believers, spiritual growth, and the joys of life in Christ, storm clouds formed on the horizon.

What would it take to convince someone to believe in Jesus? While it is impossible for us to compel anyone’s faith, our Lord knew that the authority of His Word would need to be confirmed.
