Making reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ

A Glimpse of God on His Throne – Revelation 4:1-11

Dear River Reach Family,

After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.” 2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.

Revelation 4:1-2

God designed our eyes to only see physical realities. We see God’s creation but we do not see God. We see ourselves and our lives but we do not see God’s kingdom and glory. Due to our limitation to the physical realm we naturally assume that the visible is real and the spiritual is less real. We tend to value the physical more than the spiritual even though we believe in eternal spiritual realities. We sin because we fail to properly account for the glory and authority of God. God designed the chasm between the physical and the spiritual to provide opportunity for us to glorify Him by living by faith (Hebrews 11:1-3). Jesus knows that our greatest need on this earth is to know and believe in God’s power and glory. To motivate us to live today for God’s glory, Jesus invited the apostle John into heaven to record for us the scene of God’s glory and majesty (Revelation 4:1-11). The Book of Revelation unveils for us the glory of God! As we move from the applicational section of the Book (Revelation 2-3) into the foundational truth of the Book (Revelation 4-22) we are going to see God’s glory unveiled in a clearer and more powerful display than anywhere else in God’s Word. This week Jesus invites us to see God sitting on the throne in the glories of heaven! (Revelation 4:2). Knowledge of God’s ultimate sovereignty and glory should move us to genuine worship and service of Him.
