Making reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ

A Clear View of Jesus – Revelation 1:10-17

Dear River Reach Family,

Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; 13 and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. 14 His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. 16 In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.

Revelation 1:12-16

Recently my eye has been drawn customized cars. Some people love to try to make their vehicle stand out in the gaggle of humdrum automobiles cruising the pavement. I’ve seen vehicles with street effects lights that cast an eye catching sheen underneath the vehicle as it glides along. Other vehicles distinguish themselves through the crackle and pop or rumble of a distinct exhaust note. Some people spring for an expensive custom paint job or eye catching rims and wheels. The owners of these vehicles are vying for the attention and street cred from their fellow autophiles and unsuspecting fellow travelers. Their efforts reveal our natural inclination to attribute honor and esteem based on appearances. The better someone looks, or the more flashy their clothing, hair style, home, vehicle, etc. the more impact they may have on those around them. The human race has almost mastered image but unfortunately the presentation often masks the true character of the individual. In our passage for this Sunday, the Holy Spirit through John describes the most stunning appearance of any individual in the universe. John’s description of Jesus’ appearance reflects the stunning and genuine glory of Jesus Christ. A proper vision of Jesus will move us to honor and serve Him.

Easter Invitations

Easter is just over one week away on April 4th. Easter is a wonderful time to invite people to come to hear from God’s Word about the glory and significance of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. The resurrection is the single event that differentiates Christianity from all other religions. The resurrection provides a firm foundation for our faith and the call to repent and trust in Jesus. I encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors to join us on Easter Sunday to see Jesus Christ.

This Sunday we will have flyers available on the credenza for you to pass out as invitations.
