Making reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ

A Harvest in the Desert – Acts 17:10-15

Dear River Reach Family,

Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

Acts 17:11

As we interact with people around us, it is natural for us to assume that people with shared cultural characteristics will think and act similar to people we have met with similar characteristics in the past. By nature we tend to stereotype people to some degree. Stereotypes often tend toward negative assumptions. As Christians we have been given the message of the good news of Jesus to share with the world. Jesus told us to expect the world to hate us when we share the Gospel with them. He was right! The world’s response to a gospel witness ranges from a kind but uninterested polite smile to outright anger and hostility. If we stereotypically assume that every unbeliever will hate our guts if we share the Gospel with them, then our Gospel gusto will certainly fizzle. Our passage for this week gives us hope in the midst of Gospel drought. By God’s grace some people will be receptive to the Gospel! Even some people you would least expect will be grateful that you loved them enough to share the good news of Jesus with them. In Christ there is hope for every soul, even the ones we may assume would be opposed!

Sermon: “A Harvest in the Desert” – Acts 17:10-15

Men’s Meeting / Workday on the Garage tomorrow morning

Tomorrow morning after our short men’s meeting, we are going to take some time to give some much needed attention to the garage at the Powell’s house. For years the roof has been deteriorating and now it is falling apart. Since the church uses the garage for storage, we could use your help to make some good headway working together to replace the roof! We need your help even if you don’t want to go up on the roof 🙂 It is always fun and a blessing to be able to work together with brothers in Christ.
