Making reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ

River Reach News 9/1

Dear River Reach Family,

He said, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His lovingkindness and His truth toward my master; as for me, the LORD has guided me in the way to the house of my master’s brothers.” Genesis 24:27

Who would have imagined that a single storm could produce upwards of 50 inches of rain in just a few days!  Earlier this week Hurricane Harvey dumped trillions of gallons of water on Texas leading to massive flooding and massive amounts of destruction and heartache in its path.  Needless to say we never know what will take place in our immediate or distant futures.  How do you respond to the unknown?  Do you cave to worry and fear?  Do you freeze up in inactivity?  A believer is often called to risk and sacrifice without knowing what the immediate future holds.  Last week we began to look at God’s faithfulness to Abraham’s servant as he set out in obedience to his master’s will.  We observed five essential steps to success in endeavors of faith:

One thing is certain.  Our God is faithful and loyal to those who seek to honor Him (Genesis 24:27).  This week we will observe the goodness of the Lord in blessing faithful servants with success.

Sermon: “The Reward of Loyal Faith – Part 2” Genesis 24:15-67

Men’s Meeting / Workday moved to Saturday 9/9

To better accommodate schedules, we will be moving the men’s meeting and church workday back one Saturday to Saturday, September 9th.  It was previously scheduled for tomorrow 9/2.

Discipleship Groups this Sunday evening at 6:00pm

Men: Read Chapter 8 in “Don’t Waste Your Life” by John Piper.

Women: This will be the first week of your new study in the “Book of Exodus”.  This Sunday you will receive your study notebook and listen to an introductory lesson.

As we look to “what’s next,” I’d like to invite all of the ladies to join me in a Bible study on the book of Exodus. This will be quite a different format from what we have been doing. When we meet together each week, we will be listening to a podcast from Jen Wilkin, a very gifted Bible teacher, and then follow that with a brief discussion. Then, during the week, we will have passages to study on our own. If you have never done a Bible study like this, you are in for a treat! I will be printing out the study guides that we will use throughout the weeks. If you are interested in doing this study, please let me know by Wednesday, Aug. 30, so that I can make sure to print out the right amount of study guides. I hope you will be able to join me! If you do, I am sure you will finish this study with a much better understanding of the book of Exodus and what it means for us today.
