Reaching Jacksonville with the life-giving message of Jesus

River Reach News 6/16

Dear River Reach Family,

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” Titus 2:11-14

Fathers have the most significant job on the planet (Ephesians 6:1-4).  I distinctly remember the moment I found out I was going to be a father.  I remember watching my wife give birth to our daughter and holding her for the first time.  A rush of adrenaline, an emotional high, and a deep tightening in the gut happened all at the same time!  God gave this little girl to me and I am now responsible to be her daddy!  Though financial provision often looms large in a father’s mind, the task of leading our children to faith and love for God is so much more significant and important.  God placed fathers in this world to lead their families through the dangerous waters of this present age toward faith and godliness.  Apart from the grace of God that appeared in the person of Jesus Christ we would be hopeless in our own spiritual success let alone leading our families.  But Jesus did come! Jesus did die for us and rise again!  He did send us the Holy Spirit!  By His grace we can lead our families to stiff arm the subtle advances of the godless world and pursue with clear headed thinking righteousness and godliness.  Fathers, you are God’s man to lead your family to faith.  On Sunday we will again observe in Lot a man who relinquished his God given duties and led his family to destruction.  The stakes are eternal!  The Holy Spirit is instructing fathers in this passage how to avoid the same devastation.

Father’s Day Testimonies

Following our lunch fellowship you will have the opportunity to share how God used your father in your life.  Our backgrounds are all different, but no matter what type of father you had, God can use their example in our lives.

Sunday Evening Discipleship Groups will begin on July 16th!

In four weeks we will return to our Sunday evening small group format.  I have thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday evening series on marriage and christian growth.  For this next eight week cycle we will not be watching a video series, but will take the time to read and discuss books that will challenge us in our Christian walk.  For this cycle we will be dividing into two groups.

The men will be discussing a book that God has used in my life entitled “Don’t Waste Your Life” by John Piper.

The women will be discussing a book that God has used in my wife’s life recently entitled, “The Company We Keep: In Search of Biblical Friendship” by Jonathan Holmes.

If you would like to order your own book you may do so, or we will be happy to get a book for you as well.
