Making reproducing disciples of Jesus Christ

Finding Profit in Bible Study

Session 2: August 7, 2016 @ 1:00pm

To be motivated to study your Bible, you must know that it will be profitable!  God says studying His Word is the most profitable thing you can do in life (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:3; 2 Timothy 3:16).

Last time our discussion focused primarily on:

  • The obstacles that Satan uses to prevent us from the most important activity of personal Bible study.
  • The treasure we hold: God’s loving communication to us.

In this session we will consider the incredible blessings that can be obtained through personal Bible study.  With these blessings in mind and the grace of God in our lives we will be able to overcome any obstacle Satan erects.

Scripture Passage: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

Please read this passage prior to our discussion.

You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”  2 Timothy 3:14-17

Discussion Questions:

If you have opportunity prior to our session, please take a few minutes to consider these questions.

According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, What profit will you find in personal Bible Study?  Why should we consider these elements profitable?

What will happen to your Christian life if you do not study God’s Word?

What makes reading the Bible more important than other books?
